- Her Obsession With Jewelry

She used to choose diamonds and gems and then look for a designer who can see what was in her mind and design the jewelry she wanted to wear. Mendelson said that she was vocal about what she wanted in her jewelry like design and color.
- Custom Designed Gowns Weren’t Her Staple
Mendelson recalled the event of her nomination for Butterfield 8. She bought a Dior gown from a store near her home in Gstaad, Switzerland. And you’ll be surprised to know that the gown wasn’t designed for her. Similarly, she had her periwinkle blue gown by Edith Head cut deep to accommodate the 69-carat Cartier diamond during the Academy Awards 1970. The diamond was gifted to her by Richard Burton.

Elizabeth Taylor was a DIY makeup enthusiast and she loved to do makeup so much that she took her face as a blank canvas. Instead of applying layers of cosmetics, she used to spend time pampering her skin. According to Mendelson, her skincare routine was all about time and care. Mendelson said that she was very tactile and sensual in makeup. And it took her over two hours to do her makeup. The Italian makeup artist Tolot was the only exception to this rule. She met Tolot on a Vanity Fair shoot.
- Drugstore Skin Care Brands Were Her Favorite
For most of her life, Taylor was using brands like Jergens lotion. Also, she used to treat her eyes with tea bags to keep her eyes fresh and glowing. But she never used any fancy brand. Taylor also used the go-to skincare brand La Prairie and the eight-hour skin cream by Elizabeth Arden towards the end of her life. But Taylor loved Maquifard, a lesser-known setting powder from Japan, so much that she introduced the powder to her makeup artist Tolot. And Tolot stocked up the powder before it was discontinued.

Hairstylist José Eber was her personal stylist and he had open access to her home. Eber used to wash her hair but she didn’t like conditioner. And there were practical reasons behind Taylor’s disliking of conditioners. She hated the softness that comes with conditioner and wanted her hair to have as much body as possible. But she liked long voluminous hair and her hairstylist had to work harder to keep long hair off her face. He used to put in a roller and dried it with a dryer one at a time to keep her hair out of her face so she could do her makeup.
- No False Eyelashes
Elizabeth Taylor was endowed with beautiful eyes and long lashes. According to Talot, her makeup stylist, she had a double row of lashes due to which directors used to ask her to wash the mascara in her earlier movies. But later everyone knew that Taylor had beautiful lashes. Also, her makeup team made sure that she didn’t use false eyelashes or had lip injections. But she had mascara sometimes.
- Taylor Used To Bath Before Makeup
Every time before makeup, Taylor used to take a refreshing bath to let her makeup set perfectly. The steam from the bath had a dramatic effect on her soft skin. According to Tolot, her skin stayed “dewy” as opposed to matte. Bathing was the last step after which her team used to take the rollers out and teased her locks. Tolot said that Taylor also used more of a sheer foundation that let her freckles show through. These were some steps that kept Elizabeth Taylor always ahead of others.
- She Always Used One Eyeliner
Clinique eyeliner was her favorite said Tolot. According to the makeup stylist, the eyeliner was a cake and one had to wet the brush with water and soften the cake and apply it. And it was used just like any other eyeliner. Tolot further said that she thought that Taylor was used to that eyeliner and didn’t want to change that. Tolot further said that the product was a matte, grey color instead of traditional black. Tolot thought Taylor liked that eyeliner for its soft application and natural results.

Mendelson said that Taylor never allowed her face to contour. She liked the soft and pretty look that is natural. While most celebrities used to contour their faces, Elizabeth Taylor never contour her face. Another startling revelation about Taylor was she had a huge collection of Elizabeth Arden lipsticks.
- Taylor Always Had Shiny Lips
Mendelson said that moist lips were most important to her. She spent a lot of time on her eyes and blending cosmetics but she was more concerned about her lips. For shiny lips, she used lipgloss with a sponge applicator. The advantage of using lipgloss is that it can be controlled using a lip pencil.
